After a fiery, sold-out debut concert series in 2017, Burn After Listening lights up the stage with another musical adventure. This year, the vibrant visual and acoustic space at Disjecta Contemporary Art Center is the scene of a concert exploring the connections and disconnections between us.
Featuring all new chamber, vocal, acoustic, and electronic music by three Portland composers Lisa Ann Marsh, Stacey Philipps, and Jennifer Wright (Dis)connect promises an evening of new music to engage, provoke, connect, and explore our challenging times. The smokin new music premiered by some of Portland's top performers features: *Works for Delgani String Quartet in acoustic and augmented settings *An illuminated work about fear, love, and hope for dancer Christina Wolken, violist Christina Ebersohl, keyboards, percussion, and thunder sheet *A meditation combining video and the world's only Skeleton Piano that explores the dichotomy between our physical and digital selves (best viewed with a QR code scanner app) *An evocative, rain-soaked song cycle featuring mezzo-soprano Laura Beckel Thoreson and set to text by Oregon writer, Katie Boehnlein; *And much more!
Disjecta's gallery will be open for viewing Portia Munson's singular large-scale art installation, "Flood," assembled from thousands of found objects all comprised of blue plastic. Creating a meditation on archive, materiality, and mass consumption, Munson's construction offers a lens through which we can decipher the artifacts of consumerism.
