Weekend Course: Fundamentals of Holistic Herbalism
This two-day, weekend course will lay out the fundamentals of holistic herbalism, including the four qualities, constitutions, basic assessment techniques and herbs woven in throughout. The class will be interactive and hands on, using fellow students as examples and practice. It is an opportunity to learn about your own inner workings, as well as begin to see patterns in clients or friends. The approach presented here is an eclectic blend of Traditional Western Herbalism, Chinese Medicine and a little Ayurvedic Medicine.

TOPICS COVERED:
- Herbal Energetics (Hot/cold, damp/dry)
- The four elements (Water, air, fire, earth)
- Constitutional types (Ayurvedic)
- Tongue reading and other selected assessment tools (Western and Chinese)
- Basic Materia Medica

This course is designed for students who have completed at least an Intro class and have a little experience with herbs already, or for more advanced students looking to add these techniques to their repertoire. This knowledge could be used to enhance or begin your clinical practice, or to advance your own use of herbs for yourself and your family.

SCHEDULE:
Saturday, February 24, 11-4pm
Sunday, February 25, 11-4pm

LOCATION: Classes will be held at a private residence in North Beacon Hill, Seattle within easy walking distance of the Beacon Hill Light rail station. Address provided to attendees upon purchase.

COST: $180 per person (10 people max)

ABOUT THE TEACHER: Natalie has spent several years acquiring and synthesizing knowledge about Western Herbalism, PNW Materia Medica, nutrition, and Chinese Medicine. Her approach is based heavily on the work of her main teachers; Matthew Wood, and Cascade Anderson Geller. Natalie practices based on the assumption that emotions play a huge role in chronic disease, and that herbs can help stir up, clear out or calm some of these unprocessed or stored emotions by engaging with the tissues that store this information. She integrates a lot of Chinese Medicine theory and diagnostic techniques into her work, as the systematic thinking of Chinese Medicine is unrivalled in the west. She focuses on bio regionally available herbs, though she has adopted some non-local herbs that are so awesome they simply cant be ignored. All in all, she is an empiricist at heart who loves experimentation and exploration into the possibilities of nourishing and strengthening our bodies and souls.
