Oracle Set Book Club & Foundation 51st Annual Book/Author Luncheon
In "A Good Cry: What We Learn from Tears and Laughter," Ms. Giovanni reflects, with heart rending yet stoic affect, on everything from her father's abuse of her mother and herself as a child, to the luminaries that have touched her life both up close and from afar. There are tributes to Afeni Shakur, Ruby Dee, and Maya Angelou. She recalls Civil Rights era demonstrations, her days as a hungry young writer in New York City and celebrates the National Museum of African-American History and Culture.
This event is a fundraiser in support of the Claudette Franklin Ford Memorial Scholarship Fund which is administered by the Oracle Set Foundation, Inc. We provide scholarships to graduates of DC public high schools and public charter high schools. Tickets are $70. The Foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization.
As an additional treat, the luncheon will feature a musical performance by Linda Harris with Wayne Wilentz and David Jernigan. Plan to arrive at 11:30 am to enjoy the music and get your early bids in for another exciting silent auction.
