Each California town and city has a unique story to tell, and the people who live there are ideal storytellers for their hometowns. Joe Carotenuti definitely is one of those people.

You'll learn that the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo of 1848 ended the bloody Mexican-American War which opened the way for California statehood.

That politics at the state and federal level delayed incorporation of SLO until 1856. Confusion over property rights, elections, crime and even the legitimacy of SLOs incorporation reigned until the mid-1870s.

Join Joe, historian and expert about all things SLO, for a journey through those interesting and turbulent years.

Joe will provide a free copy of his booklet A History of San Luis Obispo 1850-1876 to each attendee.

Joe Carotenuti is the City Historian/Archivist for the City of San Luis Obispo. He is a regular contributor to Journal Plus and has written over 150 articles on local history.
