https://crclr.brownpapertickets.com ---------------------------------------------------------------- Mushrooms have been growing wild since prehistoric times. Their therapeutic value has been acknowledged by indigenous cultures for thousands of years.
In the past few decades, mushrooms have become more popular for their therapeutic qualities in the west as a result of an expanding body of scientific research supporting their numerous health benefits.
Research is also showing us that mushrooms not only contribute to promoting healthier lifestyles, they can also support us in finding solutions to the challenges we face in the current environmental and economic climate.
In this interactive workshop we will explore some of these ideas, and look at ways that we can work with mushrooms to develop and implement practical solutions in our daily urban settings.
We will also explore various techniques for growing gourmet and medicinal mushrooms using so called waste materials that you have access to you in your immediate environment.
This will be a hands-on experience and we will cover everything you need to know to get you started on your growing journey, as well as look at considerations for setting up a micro mushroom farm.
Workshop Facilitator Darren Springer is from the UK and will lead the workshop. He is a Food Enterprise and Permaculture worker and tutor for "Organiclea" a workers-cooperative in London. He's a keen mushroom grower and teacher, for the last seven years he has been growing edible mushrooms and has translated his home growing experience into a commercial experiment.
Darren is also a grass-roots researcher and event organiser. Founder of Ancient Future a voluntary organisation, he has continued to develop workshops and projects aimed to inform and empower individuals from diverse backgrounds to cope with social challenges and contribute to community development as well as self-improvement in an innovative, creative, culturally-aware style.
