SEMA - Prayer Dance of the Whirling Dervishes
On Saturday, December 16th, 2017, at 3:00 pm, the Whirling Dervishes of the Mevlevi Order of America (MOA) will present the Sema Ceremony honoring the great Sufi Mystical Poet, Hz. Mevlana Jelaluddin Rumi, at the Ballard Odd Fellows Hall.
This afternoon event will feature the prayer dancing of the Whirling Dervishes, a ceremony presented as it has been for over 700 years. In traditional sacred garments, turners whirl in unison, attuning to the music of the heart.
Rumi is one of the world's finest exemplars of Islam as the Religion of Love, demonstrating through a lifetime of words and actions how Peace is possible in this world on a Path of Love.
