Your right to vote: how it has evolved and how it will be challenged -- Julie Rodewald and Ed Cabrera
Wednesday, December 13, 2017 10:00am - 12:00pm
Copeland Auditorium, French Hospital in SLO
$5 for LLCC members, $10 for non-members

As citizens, we are regularly encouraged to register to vote and to make our choices known by casting our ballots.

Methods to increase voter turnout are being successfully employed by some states. At the same time other states are apparently trying to decrease turnout by introducing security measures to combat supposed fraudulent voting.

In this course, you will be exposed toa short history of attaining the vote, and learn about the roadblocks to the right to vote in the past. You will also learn about new innovations in the voting process and about the efforts in place to protect and ensure the accuracy of the vote. You will then join a conversation about how to further safeguard elections from being hacked.

Julie Rodewald is the past county clerk-recorder, having served 20 years, with distinction, in the post before her retirement in January of 2015. Overall, she served the county for 33 years as she held the post of deputy-recorder and supervisor of the courts section of the clerks office.

Ed Cabrera taught nearly 40 years in secondary schools with his last stint, before retiring, served at Atascadero High School. His final assignment was teaching political science to 12th graders.
