Create & Make Workshop: Ready, Set, Recycle! Giving New Life to Fabric with a Bag or Pouch
Wednesday, March 14
Ready, Set, Recycle! Giving New Life to Fabric with a Bag or Pouch
Deb Shannon

Transform a garment into something useful! In this class, you will make a pouch, purse, or small bag. Fabric and necessary supplies will be provided for this workshop. Or as an optional component, you can bring along a favorite garment that may be ready for the thrift store, and we will transform it into something of your choice. We'll go old school and learn the beautiful art of hand sewing using the buttonhole stitch to connect your pieces together and then embellish as desired. No previous experience necessary. Bring your imaginative spirit, and we'll supply a selection of threads, closures, rivets, and a few tools to apply rivets!

Bio
Deb Shannon started Kittywake Designs in 2011 making recycled cashmere fingerless mitts and glovelettes. With the help of her niece, Halston, together they have expanded the business to offer a wide range of products with styles for men, women, and kids. Sewing came easily to Deb at a young age. Barbie and troll dolls had great outfits in her home. She has made all of her own clothing for many years to reflect her unique style. Deb has a clothing and textile degree and has worked in the garment industry to gain knowledge in mass production. Her current passion is sewing with reclaimed cashmere sweaters. They are luxurious, soft, warm, and breathe indoors and out. This medium is addictive for Deb! Her other line is leather - both reclaimed and new, whatever comes her way and inspires her. Over the years she has taught crochet, knitting, sewing and leather crafting. Doing clothing alterations is part of her business as well. Deb lives in the Greenwood neighborhood with her husband, Jack and two spoiled Pixiebob cats, Cricket and Rudy.
