Watershed Issues Forum
The Chambers-Clover Creek Watershed Council (CCWC) will be hosting a Watershed Issues Forum (previously Data Summit) on Wednesday, November 15, 2017 from 3:30-5:30PM at the Tacoma Mall Plaza (SWM office) in Tacoma (2702 S. 42nd St, Tacoma), and you are invited!
Our mission is to restore and protect the water quality of our lakes, streams and groundwater. The forum will give you a chance to learn what others are doing and what you can do. The format will be a panel with Q&A and discussion.
6-7 invited panelists will talk about their agency's program or activities and answer these types of questions:
What are you doing? (with regard to any of the topics below) What are you seeing? (based on data/fieldwork/studies) What do you need to be effective? (ex. regulations, laws, tools, budget, staffing) What can locals do? What can this Watershed Council do?
Some topics that we will learn about include:
Toxic algae in local lakes (TPCHD - confirmed) Lake water quality and invasive weed monitoring programs (Isabel Ragland, Pierce Conservation District - confirmed) Economic Development, Land Use & Population forecasts for the watershed (Pierce County Planning - confirmed)
Groundwater trends Homelessness and impacts to creeks Water quality data Leaky septics Local Salmon populations and trends Noxious weeds Illegal dumping in natural areas
This is a great opportunity for residents, students, researchers, and community members to learn more about our watershed.
