The Dennis Brennan Band featuring Duke Levine, Kevin Barry, Richard Gates and Billy Beard gets naked tonight at The Lizard Lounge performing two sets of all - acoustic Brennan featuring songs from their latest recording Into This World and well curated covers. Joining them tonight will be English singer songwriter Roxanne de Bastion for the middle set.
ROXANNE de BASTION
Born in Berlin to a musical, bilingual family, she started composing and performing at the age of 15. Soon after, Roxanne moved to London, equipped with her guitar, her songs and a one-way ticket.
Glastonburys legendary acoustic stage, a showcase at Folk Alliance in the USA, opening for Martha Wainwright, Ricky Ross and Thea Gilmore as well as touring in her own right across Europe only account for a handful of events that filled by Roxannes diary over the past twelve months. Her debut album and follow-up EP garnered support from BBC6, Xfm, The Sunday Times, R2 Magazine to name a few. In Germany, Roxanne has even made the prime time news together with Taylor Swift in a feature on the future of music as well as receiving national press in FAZ and Intro Magazine. Roxanne de Bastion is no stranger to the independent music scene supporters across Europe
MORE ON DENNIS BRENNAN.... To the uninitiated, Brennan could be considered Boston's own Leonard Cohen or Elvis Costello. His songwriting is respected by critics and musicians alike. Not only adept with the pen, Dennis Brennan is a highly accomplished performer and is known for his ability to span musical genres, styles, and era's with ease. His emotive and passionate voice is comfortable tackling classic country and R& B as well classic jazz, rock and blues.
But it's really Brennan's originals that have set him apart. The Chicago Sun Times described him as "A rootsy, hard-edged rocker with the barroom soul of the pre-Woodstock Graham Parker and the unsparing insight of a working class poet." It's a fitting description if ever there was one. To the initiated faithful who attend every show, Dennis and his band (which includes guitarists Duke Levine, Kevin Barry, Lyle Brewer, and Ian Kennedy on any given night along with the rhythm section of Billy Beard and Richard Gates) have etched so many indelible magical moments on the local collective conscious that they return each week to see what will happen next.
