Darcy James Argue's Secret Society performs Real Enemies

Brooklyn-based composer-bandleader Darcy James Argue and his innovative 18-piece big band Secret Society will perform the concert version of their Grammy-nominated work Real Enemies in full on November 10 at Brooklyn's ShapeShifter Lab.

Composed by Argue, Real Enemies is a 13-chapter exploration of Americas fascination with conspiracy theories; narratives behind the Red Scare, the Illuminati, Edward Snowden, and alien sightings are meticulously examined and interrogated through Argues dazzling score. As befitting a journey into postwar paranoia, the music draws heavily on 12-tone techniques, but the wide-ranging score exhibits a gleeful disregard for how those techniques have traditionally been deployed.

Real Enemies won a SOCAN Award and topped numerous "Best Album of 2016" lists including Slate, The Boston Globe, and Chicago Reader. Real Enemies was also spotlighted on NPR's Jazz Night in America.

Real Enemies follows the groups Grammy-nominated and widely praised albums Infernal Machines (2009) and Brooklyn Babylon (2013). Stream the album via Bandcamp here.
