Plant Propagation and Permaculture Nursery

Come join Sean Dembrosky for a special two-day course on plant propagation and establishing a small-scale nursery! Sean operates a permaculture nursery and food forest project called Edible Acres (www.edibleacres.org and https://www.youtube.com/user/EdibleAcres) in central NY State. Working on marginal land with no tractor or power tools (or even groundwater irrigation!), Sean has proven its possible to create a profitable and resilient nursery that also grows a large amount of the food he and his wife need. Using simple low and no-tech approaches and hardy, high-value perennial plants, he believes many more people can grow deeply nourishing food where they live and earn some money while they are at it!

Course Themes:
-Growing Trees from seeds and strategies for planting in fall or storing over winter!
- Hardwood cutting propagation!
- Garden design and considerations!
- Propagation through plant division, layering, stool mounding and much more!
- Approaches to combining perennial and annual crops in mutual support!
- Strategies for high production in small spaces!
- Soil building and cover cropping!

The course will meet November 4th-5th from 9AM-5PM both days at 715 North Main Street, Harrisonburg, VA, and is a collaborative effort between Vine and Fig and Blacks Run Forest Farm.
