Alasdair Fraser and Natalie Haas Workshop
Alasdair Fraser and Natalie Haas will lead a three-hour workshop in Gainesville, Florida, October 27th (they will be performing there the night before; see Brown Paper Tickets at http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/3081259). The duos legendary workshops, which emphasize the linguistic and rhythmic drive of traditional music, are open to students and performers of all ages. Although most participants usually are intermediate to advanced string players (violin, cello, bass), other instrumentalists also are welcome and encouraged to participate.
With their inclusive focus on building community through music-making, Alasdair and Natalie create a safe, non-judgmental, non-competitive place to learn. All teaching is done by ear. By design, the workshops specific content will depend on the interests of the participants and how the evening progresses. Topics they may explore include finding your own voice on your instrument, becoming 'groove' aware, ensemble playing, creativity and improvisation, arrangement, and forming medleys and larger pieces by combining fiddle tunes.
Like Alasdair and Natalie's concert the night before, this workshop will be an opportunity you will not want to miss. Going beyond the concert experience, you will have the chance to enhance your skills and personal connections to music through direct interactions with these masters in a relaxed and intimate setting. Alasdair and Natalies personable, unpretentious style, disarming given their accomplishments and stature as musicians and teachers, will keep you off guard and open to all you will learn from this delightfully intensive experience. Gainesville-area residents are very fortunate that their tour schedule allows them to offer this opportunity, and that these astounding artists have chosen the Gainesville community as one place in which to share their knowledge, skills, and love of music.
The workshop will run from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m. Friday, October 27th, at the home of Annemieke, Jonathan, and David Coron, 6334 N.W. 33 Street, Gainesville, Florida 32653.
