Kibbitznest Discussion Series is in collaboration with The University of Chicago Graham School to host presentations and discussions of original research.
Nicholas Bellinson studied Early Modern intellectual history at Princeton University, then Renaissance art history at the Humboldt Universität zu Berlin, and is now preparing a dissertation at the University of Chicago on Shakespeare's songs, under the auspices of the Committee on Social Thought.
How many sides does Keats's Grecian urn have? What are the scenes on each side? How does the speaker of Keats's ode look at the urn, with respect to both space and time? Is there anything inside the urn? These questions, seemingly pedantic, in fact lead to a reconsideration of this enduring vessel and the comfort it will offer its beholders: "Beauty is truth, truth beauty, that is all/Ye know on earth, and all ye need to know."
Ticket includes one drink ticket and other refreshments and will support kibbitznest programs, dedicated to promoting a better understanding of the world and its people by coming together face-to face to think, to teach, to learn, to talk, to listen, to read, to argue, to discuss, to inquire, to look at, and to be human.
kibbitznest is a registered 501(c)3 non-profit organization and wifi-free zone dedicated to the preservation of quality face-to-face human communication.
