Karr Mattingly Duo feat. composer Dr. Joseph Michaels
Kathleen Karr, flute; Stephen Mattingly, guitar

As part of a promotional tour for the upcoming release of their CD on Clear Note Publications, the Karr Mattingly Duo will perform a concert of 20th and 21st-century music for flute and guitar. The eclectic program promises to include something for everyone, from the conventional to the unconventional, from Latin and folk music influences to Classical, and from music from the beginning of the 20th century to the world premier of a work written for the duo.

Kathleen Karr and Dr. Stephen Mattingly, who are both on faculty at the University of Louisville's School of Music, have performed as soloists and with top ensembles and orchestras around the world. Ms. Karr has been the principal flutist with the Louisville Symphony Orchestra since 1988 and is a founding member of the Kentucky Center Chamber Players. She has also been a faculty member of the Interlochen Arts Camp. Dr. Mattingly has recently given performances at Carnegie Hall and notable venues in Poland, Italy, and Germany. He is a founding member of the Old Toad Guitar Duo and the Tantalus Guitar Quartet.

For those who wish to gain a "behind-the-scenes" insight into the music, the duo will be joined by the composer Dr. Joseph Michaels for a pre-concert discussion. Among other topics, Dr. Michaels will explain why his work for the Karr Mattingly Duo, although written thousands of miles away in Germany, has a strong connection with Three Rivers.
