Benny Green Trio
Benny Green's flair for tasteful swinging, both elegant and earthy, burns bright with flawless ambidextrous technique and imaginative, one-of-a-kind improvisational lines. His keyboard genius has bolstered the vocal artistry of Betty Carter, served in the ranks of Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers, and succeeded the great Gene Harris in the Ray Brown Trio. Soon after joining Ray's trio in 1993, Benny recordedBassFace: Live at the Kuumbwa. His latest release, Happiness! Live at Kuumbwa, was also recorded live on our stage. Green's current group features ace bassist David Wong and drummer Rodney Green (no relation). Despite flirtations with other styles of music, Benny remains a respected keeper of the hard bop flame. Music critic Richard Scheinin called him, ...one of jazz's most joyful players.
