Ballake Sissoko & Vincent Segal
The duo of Malian kora virtuoso Ballake Sissoko and French cellist Vincent Segal effortlessly crosses genres and is a true collaboration that combines West African troubadour songs with the rich history of Baroque classical music. The folksy elements and lilting melodies are combined with bold improvisation and dense musical phrasing the songs having undeniable narrative qualities. Weve always had this connection to the oral tradition, says Segal, and improvisation, and clarity of discourse. Those pillars give the music a timeless quality, even as it is something new and inventive.
