9pm - Spanish Harlem Orchestra
1/2 Price for Students at the Door
The Spanish Harlem Orchestra's passionate revitalization of the salsa tradition has earned the New York-based Latin ensemble two Grammy awards and a large, enthusiastic fan base. Led by pianist/arranger/producer Oscar Hernandez, the thirteen-member orchestra has consistently filled concert and dance halls with fiery Latin grooves during its fifteen year existence. Previously, Hernandez had played with Ismael Miranda and Ray Barretto before joining Ruben Blades' popular Seis Del Solar in the '80s. Oscar started the Spanish Harlem Orchestra in 2002 and produced their debut recording which won the Latin Billboard award for Salsa Album of the Year and a Grammy nomination. Newsday observed, the Spanish Harlem Orchestra has evolved into the leading light of the salsa reconstruction movement. Their fifth and most recent album is simply titled Spanish Harlem Orchestra.
