Dick Weissman is a composer-songwriter, banjo and guitar player,storyteller, and singer. Most of the music that he performs are his own songs or instrumental pieces. They vary from fairly abstract instrumentals to serious and satirical songs which range from satirical commentary about the New West, to the legend of Bob Dylan, as well as various observations about contemporary life. He is noted for an original banjo and guitar stylings that incorporate aspects of blues, country music, and jazz, with an occasional nod to classical music.

Dicks music has evolved over his tenure with the legendary folk-pop band The Journeymen, his years of studio work in New York, and has survived a music degree in theory and composition. His influences vary from John Coltrane to Reverend Gary Davis and Pete Seeger. His original instrument was the piano, and he has studied folk, jazz and classical guitar since that time.

Many of his stories are elaborations of his book: The Music Never Stops: A Musical Journey with the Rich, the Famous, the Unknown and the Forgotten. The book is listed as one of the best music books of 2016 by the Association for Recorded Sound.
