Learning to Tie: Rope Bondage 101

Want to create a deeper connection between you and your partner? Does the feeling of being bound satisfy you? Do you love the artistry of rope on the body? People enjoy rope bondage for many different reasons: the connection, aesthetic, power dynamic, feeling of being bound... the list goes on. Play between partners can be platonic or sexualized just like any other activity two people engage in. Covered in this class are the basic ties that will get your bondage play started, and how to make it satisfying right from the get go.

We will go over fundamental ties, safety issues particular to rope, and creating a headspace for your scene. The first half hour will be instruction, and the next hour and a half will be guided practice. Everyone learns in different ways. This class is taught to engage different types of learning styles, giving attendees the tools and instruction they need.

You will get a hand out to take home, but also please be ready to take notes. You may use your phone to take pictures of your practice (recommended), but taking pictures with other attendees in the background is strictly prohibited. This will be enforced. This event is a safe place for anyone to access education.

Coming with a partner to this event is not necessary. The idea of needing a partner to explore rope is often what holds people back from starting. Everyone in the class will be interacting with the others attendees. However, this does not mean that by attending the class you are consenting to being touched or being tied by other attendees.

Rope will be provided for use during class.

About the Instructor: Averie (Ropecandy)

Averie has sought out instruction and explored rope's versatility through attending classes and intensives given by world renowned instructors including FredRx, Pedro, Kanna, and Osada Steve. She has recently attended rope conventions across the country including Florida Intensive Rope Experience, Bondage Expo Dallas, GrayDancer's Ropetastic Unconference Extravaganza, and RopeCraft.

Although she is more often rigging than being tied, Averie's first experiences with rope were as a bottom (A rope bottom is the person being tied up). Understanding and teaching rope from this "switch's perspective", allows for a unique learning experience and wealth of knowledge to all attendees: tops, bottoms, and switches.

Averie's love of rope comes from it's creative versatility and the dynamic it coaxes people into. Rope can be sensual, thrilling, acrobatic, challenging, sadistic, or artful. These qualities are what she explores.
