B-Side Social with Max McKellar
The Nashville Jazz Workshop continues it's new series, the B-Side Social, Friday, August 18 at 7pm. We'll push back the tables for this fun, informal gathering featuring Max McKellar. Joining Max will be Ashton Kimbroh on piano, Dan Hagen on guitar, Ross McReynolds on drums and Alayna Renae on vocals.
Come hang out at the Jazz Cave for these B-Side Social events. Once a month NJW will feature up and coming artists in Nashville's continually growing jazz scene. With a lower ticket price -- $12 advance, $15 at the door -- and open seating, it makes for a great Friday night.
As with all events, NJW is always BYOB and BYOF.
Max McKellar was Born in Fremont, CA and raised in Nashville, TN, Max Mckellar would find himself in an increasingly musical environment at a young age. With a father who was a professional musician and sister who shared an affinity for music, it was only time before Max would commit to playing an instrument. At the age of 11 he came in contact with his first bass and realized it was the instrument for him. Through the direction of his father and other local musicians, Max began his music education. At age 14 he was accepted into Nashville School of the Arts where he graduated with the senior superlative Most Talented.
Outside of high school, Max also took classes at the Nashville Jazz Workshop where he started honing his jazz knowledge. He also began gigging regularly with his father in the Linda Rose Jazz Quartet, performing in the greater Middle-Tennessee area. After graduating high school, Max received a performance scholarship to attend Middle Tennessee State University to study as a Jazz Performance Major, where he would spend the following two years playing in a series of ensembles and gigging regularly with his colleagues from school.
Following this, Max received a performance scholarship to attend Berklee College of Music in Boston, where he completed his Bachelors Degree in Music Performance. During this time Max took part in an innumerable amount of playing opportunities such as: recitals, recording sessions, in-class concerts, local gigs, concert series, as well as touring in Europe and Asia. He was also awarded the highest scholarships in the bass department including: Bass Department Chair Performance Achievement Scholarship, and the Wes Wehmiller Bass Scholarship, where he flew to LA with his beloved teacher Danny Morris to perform in honor of Wes Wehmiller. This performance took place alongside the tremendous musicians such as John Robinson Jr., John Patitucci, and Berklee Bass Chair Steve Bailey.
