Atlanta Food Systems Exploration Tour

Save the Date! APHA'S Food and Environment Working Group is hosting a day-long tour of the Atlanta Food Movement. The tour is being organized by staff of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention along with local food systems leaders.

When: Saturday, November 4th, 12:30pm - 7:30pm (approximate time)

Where: Buses leave from the Georgia World Congress Center (site of APHA 2017; 285 Andrew Young International Blvd NW).

The tour itinerary is still being developed, but possible stops may include:

- An urban agriculture project that serves refugee and other underserved communities to connect local families to land, education, and markets

- A fruit and vegetable prescription program administered by a healthcare organization which offers low-income families a voucher to purchase fruits and vegetables in farmers markets and other food retailers

- A university food service sustainability program, and possibly a panel discussion of climate change and urban food production.

More information will be provided as the itinerary is solidified, but we are planning to end the tour with a social hour where we will enjoy food (from a local chef using local produce), drinks, and conversation about how the food movement in Atlanta connects to our work across the country and how we can collaborate for systems-wide action.
