ABOUT THE PROGRAM: Black Spectacles was founded in Chicago in 2010 by Marc Teer, a practicing architect at Gensler and Assistant Adjunct Professor at the Illinois Institute of Technology. After seeing his colleagues and students struggling to find resources to support their interest in learning design software, Marc brought together architects and designers practicing at the worlds most influential firms from across the country to lend their professional expertise in design software, so that architects can learn the tools and work flows necessary to develop design work at the highest level. In 2013 Black Spectacles expanded its offering and partnered with AIA Chicago and Mike Newman to launch an online curriculum for architects to prepare for the Architect Registration Exam. Based on workshops AIA Chicago had been hosting for decades, Black Spectacles built an entirely new curriculum focusing on all sections of the exam. In 2015 Black Spectacles partnered with AIA National to offer ARE Prep curriculum to architects across the country and re-branded it as the AIA ARE Prep powered by Black Spectacles. Black Spectacles is the worlds first and only online learning resource built specifically for architects and designers. ABOUT THE COURSES The AIA ARE Prep Curriculum includes hours of video tutorials covering all sections of the ARE. Courses are taught by practicing architects working at world-class firms-not trainers, so you get a real-world perspective from practitioners who are working on the worlds most sophisticated architecture. And all of the tutorials are viewable on-demand, on any device with an internet connection, anywhere in the world so you can learn what you want when you want.
