Intro to Biochar class (with Aaron Armstrong as teacher)
In this hands-on, skill-building class, participants will receive the knowledge necessary to be able to produce small biochar stoves at home, properly charge biochar with organic materials, and apply biochar in an effective and efficient manner.

Leave the class with a small biochar stove, char appropriate for biological innoculation, and char innoculation process started so it will soon be ready to use in your garden!

Materials will be provided.  Do bring: a pint-sized container for your biochar and water bottle, and dress for whatever weather we have as class will be entirely outside.  Meet at the Gathering Plaza at Beacon Food Forest (east up the hill from 15th Ave. S. and S. Dakota St.)

Contact Aaron Armstrong with questions about class - aaron@growyouroasis.com.

A little about Biochar Instructor, Aaron Armstrong -
Aaron studied tea ceremony, tea cultivation, and tea gardens for many years. Lived and worked in Japan with holistically motivated tea growers, tea hybridizers, and tea masters.  Came to permaculture by way of tea cultivation.  Came to design through a three-fold path of study of Japanese/Chinese tea gardens and aesthetics; English gardens; and growing up in the Pacific NW forests.  Once a tea importer and purveyor, and still a tea practitioner, Aaron worked for many years to establish an urban farm and community education center, Wallingfarm, in the Wallingford neighborhood of Seattle. In 2014, he established SoilScapes, a sustainable landscape design/build firm in same neighborhood.  Working with local permaculture professionals drew him into the Seattle sustainability and permaculture communities.  He specializes in hugelkultur applications and soil regeneration and is focused on experimentation and collection of empirical evidence for permaculture and soil systems.  He co-owns, Oasis Edible Naturescapes, a design-build Seattle-based holistic permaculture design landscaping company that strives to work in harmony with nature and be a force for good!
