2016 California Building Code-Accessibility Changes
This seminar will cover important changes to accessibility requirements from both the 2013 mid-cycle changes and the new 2016 California Building Code. Topics covered include Live/Work, Parking Spaces, Elevators, Passenger Loading Zones, Toilet & Bathing Rooms, Signage, Stair Handrails, EV Charging Stations and Alterations.
Attendees will learn:
How to determine proper code edition for design based on date for submittal of permit application.
Proper accessible design of parking spaces, stairs and water closet compartments
New provisions for accessible electric vehicle charging stations.
How to determine the proper adjusted cost of construction for path of travel requirements.

Timothy P. McCormick, P.E., C.B.O. & CASp
Tim is a building code consultant who specializes in accessibility compliance. His work includes evaluation of existing buildings, design review and construction observation. His clients include government agencies, developers, property owners, architects, civil engineers and of course, their attorneys.
Prior to creating his own company, Tim worked as building official for a City and County for thirteen years. He also worked in various capacities, including Training Officer, for the Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety. Before beginning his government career, he spent 15 years in construction and has worked as a carpenter, superintendent, cost estimator, project manager and on his own as a general contractor. With his background, he brings a common sense practical approach to code compliance that focuses on intent.
He holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Cal Poly, Pomona and a Masters in Public Administration from Golden Gate University, San Francisco. He is licensed by the State of California as a civil engineer, general contractor and Certified Access Specialist. He is ICC certified as a building official and plans examiner.
He is a member of the International Code Council (ICC), California Building Officials (CALBO) and the Certified Access Specialist Institute (CASI)
