RFO "What's Up?", May 25, 2017
Robert Ferguson Observatory, Sugarloaf Ridge State Park
Kenwood, CA
Compartir este evento

The Robert Ferguson Observatory is offering a limited-ticket event called "Whats Up?" on Thursday, May 25 at 8PM at the observatory.  Come join us!  You'll receive a tour of the observatory, a classroom talk about prominent objects that are viewable that night, followed by telescope observing on RFO's three large telescopes: an 8 inch refractor, an astrophotography telescope, and the large 40 inch reflecting telescope.

If you've attended our Public Star Parties, you know that RFO can become very crowded and busy. "Whats Up?" offers you a more intimate event at the observatory, with a number of experienced astronomy docents to answer your questions, and you'll have much longer observing time at the telescopes.

The night's main showcase?  Jupiter will be undergoing a relatively rare double-shadow event: the moons Io and Europa cross in front of Jupiter, and you'll be able to see their shadows cast upon Jupiter's face. Other highlighted objects will include the Whirlpool Galaxy, currently colliding with another galaxy, other beautiful galaxies in the Coma-Leo-Virgo cluster and Ursa Major, and astounding globular clusters in Coma Berenices and Hercules.

Tickets are limited to 50 participants: $15.00 per adult and $10.00 for seniors (62+) and youth under 18.

The observatory is a 501(3)(c) institution, and all proceeds from this event go towards maintaining its many public education programs.
