ASCE COPRI Seattle Chapter Monthly Dinner Meeting - April 26, 2017
Topic:
An update on ASCE 61-19 Committee discussions regarding pipe piles

Description:
The ASCE 61 committee is currently developing provisions for the next edition, ASCE/COPRI 61-19 Seismic design of Piers and Wharves .  A proposed  approach has been submitted by the presenter to the committee for discussion regarding the seismic design of unfilled pipe piles including revised strain limits.

The presentation will  summarize the results of research involving  cyclic tests of steel pipe piles performed at North Carolina State University (NCSU) funded by the Alaska DOT, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and others that indicate unfilled pipe piles of the diameters and wall thickness  (D/t ratio) commonly used in marine waterfront construction, may be susceptible to local buckling of the shell during seismic loading.
