Telemann alla Polacca
The prolific and colorful 18th-Century composer Georg Philip Telemann was famous for his ingenious incorporation of various national styles, and perhaps the most striking as his integration of the Polish folk style he was exposed to during his tenure as a court composer in upper Silesia (now Zary, Poland).
The works on this program of concert, sonatas and suites for winds and strings have an unmistakable exuberant Polish flair that will conjure up images of both Polish folk fiddling as well as stately polonaises danced in aristocratic chambers. The program, which features the astounding artistry and virtuosity of German recorder and flute player, Matthias Maute, is certain to delight, excite and uplift the audience. A fully-catered, meet-the-artists reception follows the concert to which all are invited.
