UPside Dance 'Anatomy of Happiness' Performance

In this colorful 'Tour de Corpe', UPside Charismatic dancers will step into motion, emBODYing the concept of "happiness" with a delightful balanced sprinkling of presentations from outstanding local poets, scientists, musicians, culinary connoisseurs, comedians & artists to share their songs, poetry, films, and lessons on levity through the anatomy.

Each piece illuminates a different part of the body and how we use it to express, feel, or hope for happiness: Whether it is Laughter through our THROAT, reaching our HANDS to someone we love, Conditioning our BRAIN to think about at our lives differently, or even the EYEing food that makes us happy. Watch as this abstract emotion of Happiness, is transformed into a multi-dimensional, palpable, enlightening cutting edge dance. The irresistible premiere of 'Anatomy of Happiness' will redefine how you see your own body.

Since 2012, UPside Dance Company, co-directed by Kate Vazzoler and Tanya Tolmasoff, have become known for the interactive element of their work, and for bringing dance to unconventional spaces in Sonoma County. In their original concept of Anatomy of Happiness, Vazzoler and Tolmasoff continue to turn-up-the-volume with dynamic choreographic pieces: the sleepy and Mesmerizing Pelvis, the interlinking Spine piece, or UPsides quirky crowd-favorite Skin, or the quartet Heart that will pull at all your heart strings. 6th St. Playhouse Theatres seating is arranged to give audience members surprising proximity to the dancers as they parade through the aisles.

This premiere continues UPsides strong emphasis on collaboration with national and international choreographers. Guest Choreographer Lisa Deyo (Deyo Dances of SLO, Hubbard St. Dance Chicago, Twyla Tharp), resets her award-winning stirring piece to Inga Swearingens gorgeous acapela version of Ode to Joy. Actress Rae Quintano ( Imaginist Theatre Group) performs an original heartfelt work called Make Room. ARtist, Jessica Martin, will be premiering her community art peice and film about Regrets and Courage(Ted Talks 2014). Leilana Peuliu, a Yoga instructor and UPside dancer, will enchant the audience with a new soulful song about finding inner happiness. The compelling Shunya & Keith Anding, architects and meditation coaches, present a piece about how to create a Happy Home. Food scientist, Dr. Ali Bouzari (Ted Talks 2015, Author Ingredient), guides the audience through the taste-buds and the science of food and happiness. Inspirational Speaker, Xerses Whitney, blesses our stage with his own colorful and positive outlook on life with a special presentation and poetry/meditation.

Whether youve ALWAYS wanted to know how it feels to romp through the MIND, experience dance set to the musicality of children's LAUGHTER, how you can feel comfortable in your own SKIN, or how the folds of the frontal lobe inspire choreography. Or perhaps you have NO IDEA what that might even look like- Great! Arent you curious?
