RENO, NV. Tooth of Crime (Second Dance) by Sam Shepard is the 1997 revision of the 1972 play. An innovative rock drama featuring aging rock star Hoss in a world in which entertainment and street warfare go hand in hand, Hoss must defend himself against Crow, a newcomer who battles him for fame. Combining musical styles and intense dialogue in an unconventional musical-fantasy, Tooth of Crime riffs brilliantly on rising stars and fading legends. The show features local punk band Vampirates, along with Reno rock veterans Jeff Done and Spike Ritchie, creating original music for the production.
In 2015 the original team of Zaumeyer, Richards and Dundas produced Tooth Of Crime at Jub Jubs on Wells Avenue. For 2017, they will bring it to the Brüka Theatre space, which has been an artistic home for these artists for many years. The unique and dynamic set invites the audience in to not just witness, but be a part of the spectacle. The creation team of Tooth Of Crime, including Dave Richards, Lewis Zaumeyer and Scott Dundas stress that this show is not for the faint of heart, or for anyone unwilling to step out of his or her comfort zone. Their goal is not just to put on a theatrical production, but to use the space to create a world for the audience to enter. They hope the audience will be transported into another world, perhaps another dimension where Hoss, the King of Rock, reigns supreme. Tooth Of Crime opens with a post-show opening night champagne reception and appetizers from the Wild River Grille on April 7, 2017. The show runs weekly Thursday through Sunday through April 22, 2017. Evening shows begin at 8:00 pm (Artist night is Wednesday April 19, 2017. ALL TICKETS are $10 for Artist Night.) There is one Sunday matinees on April 9. The matinee begins at 2:00 PM and is followed by a talk back with the company and our audience. The doors open a half an hour before curtain time. Suggested for ages 14 and up.
Reservations are available through our box office at (775) 323-3221. Individual tickets are $20 for general $18 for students, seniors and military and all tickets are $25 at the door. ABOUT THE AUTHOR SAM SHEPARD
Pulitzer Prize winning author (Buried Child) The play was written in 1972 when Shepard moved to London with his wife and son to become a rock star. It combines realistic and nonrealistic elements, celebrates popular culture (rock music, movie Westerns, drugs, and cars), offers dramatic meditation on the subject formed within and, to a great extent, determined by contemporary (sub)cultures. Shepard wrote both the music and the lyrics.
In 1997, Shepard rewrote the play as THE TOOTH OF CRIME (SECOND DANCE).
