What Matters to Me! Transition to Adulthood: Community Resources and Barriers
As individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities, parents become more and more concerned about life for their child when they are no longer around or able to take care of them. Two significant barriers are accessing affordable housing and Medicaid benefits.
Three parents of adult children with IDD will present what they have learned through their involvement in PACID (Parent Advocates for Adult Children with I/DD), a grassroots movement that offers information and education about the transition to adulthood, focusing primarily on affordable housing and the Innovations Waiver, as well as their own experience in navigating these waters.
Carol Conway, Dotty Foley, and Kathy Hotelling have children in their 20s.
