Give Us Bread - Centennial Celebration
The Anthropologists' present a special Concert Reading their original play GIVE US BREAD in honor of the 100 year anniversary of the 1917 Lower East Side food riots. This will also be a Benefit for the company, who will premiere its newest work, This SinkingIsland, at the University Settlement in Fall 2017. Join us on Sunday, March 19 at2PM at the University Settlement (184 Eldridge Street at the corner of Rivington, New York, NY 10002). The venue is accessible.

Based on true events, Give Us Bread brings to life the little-known stories of immigrant women on the Lower East Side who bandedtogether to lead an uprising and feed their families. One hundred years before the Womens March, these "everyday housewives" provide a lens with which to examine current-day politics, social conditions and todays global food system. Give Us Bread offers an important reminder fromthe past that the voice of the people, united, has power to inspirechange.

Meticulously researched from Yiddish newspapers to cook books to Jewish anarchist Marie Ganzs memoir andother firsthand accounts, The Anthropologists play (originally produced in 2009) was hailed by nytheatre.com as a thoroughly entertaining and thought provoking play mixing elements of danceand stylized movement to create a piece that is wholly within its own hybrid Anthropologists genre. Founding Artistic Director Melissa Moschitto will be rejoined by the original cast. The Anthropologists are thrilled to be sharing this remarkable history with a new audience at the doorstep of these historical events.

Founded in 2008 and celebrating their 9th year, The Anthropologists is dedicated to thecollaborative creation of investigative theatre that inspires action. Rooted in research and community engagement and shaped by contemporary dance and physical theatre techniques, theyre committed to exploring current social topics from an anthropological perspective in order to break down and unleash cultural discoveries. Their newest ensemble devised play, No Mans Land, produced in 2016 at TheaterLab, assertively stakes its claim as an incisive, even necessary workfor the present moment. (Culture Catch)
