Family Herb Walk
This family class is a new and unique offering from Adiantum (A-dee-an-tum) School, borne from your suggestions! We have designed the class as an opportunity for both adults and children to learn simultaneously in the environment most suited to them. The groups will learn separately, then come back together for a break, and again at the end to share what they learned!

KIDS: The kids will be with Rebecca Holbert, who will teach them a few native plants and some medicinal uses, do an arts and crafts project,. We are accepting young students from age 4-10 for this section of the class. Please purchase a "Child" ticket at checkout.

Rebecca Holbert holds a M.A. of Education specializing in science education from the University of Washington, and a certificate in Education for Environment and Community from IslandWood. She loves working with children as they bring out her own inner child and curiosity for the natural world. Rebecca has been teaching in classroom and outdoor settings for over 6 years and has found that learning happens best when its fun. Her teaching style is responsive and compassionate- reminding students that they are all scientists with valuable questions and ideas about the world. Currently, Rebecca is a childrens garden coordinator at Tilth Alliance (formerly Seattle Tilth).

ADULTS: Natalie will teach the adults. We'll do a plant walk, spend some time harvesting and do an onsite preparation. We'll learn 10-15 of the park's plants, tricks to identify them, how and when to harvest them, and what they are useful for. Natalie usually focuses on medicinal uses, but also touches heavily on edible and material uses of the plants as well. Some of the plants we'll encounter this time of year are St John's wort, apple, hawthorne, wild blackberry, rose, cleavers, alder, Douglas fir and poison hemlock. Please purchase an "adult" ticket for each adult at checkout.

Natalie is the founder of The Adiantum School of Plant Medicine, which will soon celebrate it's one year anniversary. She teaches western herbalism, plant identification and wildcrafting around the Seattle area. Her teachers and mentors include prominent herbalists such as Cascade Anderson Geller, Matthew Wood and Sheila Kingsbury. She is a highly knowledgeable and information heavy teacher that gets down to business.
