He was friends with Albert Einstein and Mahatma Ghandi. He was wealthy, having inherited the most prominent department store in Berlin. Until recently, he was an enigma and largely forgotten. Now we know he inspired the
Kindertransport, financed a childrens settlement in Palestine, provided safe passage for Jewish refugees, and helped his 700 Jewish employees emigrate. The filmmaker takes us on an adventure as he searches for the mysterious hero, and for the reasons he disappeared from history.
