Tommy Halloran's Guerrilla Strings

Tommy Halloran's Guerrilla Strings is a trio of guitar, bass, and violin that plays the compositions of St. Louis songwriter Tommy Halloran. The group features violinist Abbie Steiling and her brother, bassist Andy Hainz, while Halloran plays guitar and sings songs influenced by great 20th Century tunesmiths such as Irving Berlin, the Gershwin brothers, Jobim, and others. Some material reflects Carribbean influences, as well, notably ska, and often comparisons have been made to the The Squirrel Nut Zippers (in which Charlie Halloran, Tommys brother, plays trombone). Violinist Abbie Steiling also plays in the world-famous progressive rock band Pavlovs Dog and received her masters degree in jazz performance from Webster University. Her brother Andy is also the bassist in St. Louis Fox Theater Orchestra and received his degree in jazz performance from SIUE. Halloran may be best known for his band Guerrilla Swing, which has been voted Best Jazz in the Riverfront Times the past three years. The trio has been working together for a number of years now, and is actively planning a new recording and a Canadian tour.
