Lost In the Trees is an inventive music collective from Chapel Hill, North Carolina helmed by composer and songwriter Ari Picker. The band merges the dramatic symphonic elements of classical music with the accessibility of American folk and modern pop, creating a sound that is simultaneously intimate and sonically ambitious.

Picker, a composer by training and a songwriter by inclination, describes his band as "Orchestral Folk Music" because it features arrangements which harness both the dramatic power of classical music and the more intimate sounds of the singer-songwriter tradition  strings and brass meshing effortlessly with accordion, bells, musical saw, banjo, and mandolin.

At seven members, the band is certainly one of the larger up-and-coming outfits in contemporary or indie folk music. Still, their eclectic and imaginative sound ranges from the sort of thing Decemberists fans might cotton to, all the way to a far more cinematic backdrop. It's not unthinkable that Lost in the Trees's music could be used to score a feature film.

Opening band Midtown Dickens was founded by best friends Catherine Edgerton and Kym Register, the homegrown band has been touring the country playing small clubs and living rooms. Just last year, though, it took a big step toward national recognition by touring with The Mountain Goats. Also, on the bill singer-songwriter Dana Buoy.  Doors will open at 7:30 p.m. with show time at 8 p.m.
