ShawnMikael(s) back in Columbia Heights, Back at Studio 1469
ShawnMikael(s) once again descends on the friendly confines of Columbia Heights, DC's Studio 1469, a unique new space that we're hoping becomes a permanent fixture for improv here in DC, and for us in particular.
Joining us this month is a lineup that is, in a word, stellar:
September 21st at Studio 1469 will be hosted by one of the DC standup scene's most talented mainstays, Mariya Alexander.
Sistine Robot will hit the stage next. From their origins as one of Washington Improv Theater's first Harold teams, this troupe has become a DC indie improv scene dynamo, hosting shows and being primarily milk-out-your-nose funny. You'll leave their show thinking you were back at the grade school lunch table (minus the ruler smacks on your knuckles from Mrs. Davidson, the lunchroom monitor -- why was she so mean? Sheesh...)
We'll then turn the stage over to Aboulia(!), just back from their very successful run at the Harrisburg Improv Comedy ThrowDown, where they brought home 3rd place out of stiff competition from 16 teams.
Finally, ShawnMikael(s) will take the stage to close out the evening. ShawnMikael(s) will be fresh off a busy month of festival shows that have included the Baltimore Improv Festival, Harrisburg (Pa) Improv Comedy Throw Down, and the Kansas City Improv Festival.
The Space: Studio 1469 (http://studio1469.com/), located in the rear of 1469 Harvard Street, is not your normal performance space: one part artist's hideaway, one part "white-box" theater, it's a hidden gem in bustling Columbia Heights. Please note that access isn't available on Harvard Street, but by entering via the alley off 15th Street between Harvard Street and Columbia Road. BYOB: Keep in mind that space doesn't sell alcohol. However, you are welcome to bring your own alcoholic beverages to the the show (provided, of course, you are of legal drinking age).
