Small Business Lunch at Halls with Michael Maher, CEO of Horizon Project Foundation's WestEdge Development
The King Street Marketing Group and Halls Chophouse are pleased to welcome Michael Maher, CEO of the Horizon Project Foundation that is guiding the development of the multiple-million dollar WestEdge project, Thursday, January 5 at noon for our monthly Small Business Lunch at Halls.

The long-term WestEdge plan calls for a $1 billion medical research hub on one of the largest contiguous tracts of real estate left on the peninsula - 22 acres near the Ashley River between Lockwood Drive and Hagood Avenue, from Spring to Fishburne streets.

*** State-of-the-art Lab Space
*** Business incubator and accelerator space
*** General business space
*** More than 570 new one and two-bedroom living spaces
*** Publix Super Market
*** Restaurants
*** Retail shops

WestEdge is envisioned as an economic catalyst for the future of the City of Charleston and expansion of The Medical University of South Carolina's bio-tech research and business initiatives.

WestEdge is being developed by the Horizon Project Foundation, (HPF) a non-profit founded by the City of Charleston and MUSC Foundation. As Part of Charleston's West Side, WestEdge is a new extension of a thriving, established community  of parks, athletic fields, schools, stadiums, hotels, and award-winning research hospitals and universities.

Surrounded by the Medical University of South Carolina, Roper St. Francis Healthcare, the College of Charleston, and The Citadel, WestEdge is the next generation of research and discovery districts, driven by a desire to be ever more livable, ever more accessible, and ever more connected.

Maher described WestEdge as a natural extension of the city's increasingly cramped medical district. The idea, he said, is to give MUSC some room to breathe while creating a new urban destination for bio-technology firms and other knowledge-based businesses that need or want to be near a medical research university.

With state of the art lab space, incubator and accelerator space, general office space, 575 new living spaces, Publix Super Market, restaurants and retail shops, as well as additional hotel options for clients, patients, and partners alike, WestEdge invites more than living, working, and dining, it makes accessibility, connection, and innovation possible.

"A place to live, learn and earn, if you will," said Maher.

An architect, Maher, began working for the City of Charleston in 2001 managing Charleston's Civic Design Center on Calhoun Street.

The plan includes design and public access elements that create a walkable, healthy ambiance for the community. A bright, active main street forms the heart of the district, with a Publix Super Market, shops, restaurants, and outdoor cafes. Plus, a network of pedestrian, bike and auto cross connections will link the peninsula's greater West Side community to the waterfront at Brittlebank Park.

Each month, Small Business Lunch at Halls features a distinguished speaker from the business, civic or political arenas upstairs at Halls Chophouse with an imaginative three-course meal prepared by Executive Chef Adam Jakins.

Tickets are $31 per person plus tax and processing fee for the luncheon. Doors open at 11:45 a.m. and lunch is served promptly at noon. Limited seating provides an intimate experience with each speaker.

Halls Chophouse is located at 434 King Street in downtown Charleston. Convenient parking is available at the Visitors Center Garage on Ann Street between King and Meeting Streets.
