Seed Saving class at Landis Valley

Landis Valley's farm program manager, Joe Schott, will focus on helping you fill your gardens with plants tailor-made for your area's unique conditions. He will show how the Heirloom Seed Project at Landis Valley grows, harvests, and stores heirloom seeds. Joe has a wealth of practical knowledge on growing and preserving seeds and will provide discussion time to address your questions.

Joe Schott is the Farm and Garden Manager at Landis Valley Village & Farm Museum. The Heirloom Seed Project at the museum is responsible for collecting and preserving seeds that the Pennsylvania Germans grew in southeastern Pennsylvania prior to 1940. These seeds are all open pollinated and can produce the same crop every year. Joe also oversees the care of eight draft horses, heritage Lineback cattle, numerous sheep, chickens, and pigs, with the help of several volunteers and staff. Joe has been continuously farming for 40 years on the same farm as his father, grandfather, and great-grandfather before him. He currently farms 80 acres with 80+ sheep, pasture, and hay.
