Russian Film Series: Andrei Smirnov in conversation with Boris Lokshin
Actor and director Andrei Smirnov is a household name for every Russian family. Had he done nothing other than directing the 1970 film "Belorus Station" about a long echo of a world war and male bonding over the common war trauma, he would still be celebrated to this day. His resume not only includes directing the cult film (and a couple of others, one of which, "Once Upon a Time There Lived A Simple Woman," was screened at the library), but also starring in more than a dozen roles in film and TV. The event will begin with a short, 30 min long, film "Angel," an early directorial work of Andrei Smirnov. The film was shelved for more than 20 years and only released after the collapse of the Soviet Union.
The screening will be followed by a conversation with film critic Boris Lokshin and Q&A.
