Beef Herd Economic Workshop January 6 in Moses Lake, Washington will Feature Nationally recognized Wyoming Economic Ranch Management Program.
In two short years cattle producers have seen cattle prices go from record highs in 2014 to market values dropping by more than 40% in 2016. Almost all agriculture commodities values, including cattle, have dropped significantly in the past year as a result of increased supplies and a slowing global economy.
Cattle producers must make many essential choices about nutrition, pasture/land management, animal health, animal breeding and genetics to name a few. These daily decisions require a lot of time and effort to get them done right. Attention to daily task often results in marketing, economic analysis and risk management getting put to the back burner. With current volatile economic conditions in the beef cattle market, timely economic decisions are critical to production and ranch sustainability. Challenging times also provide opportunities for those that are willing to critically evaluate their operation and make tough decisions.
Washington State University Extension and Grant County Cattlemens Association would like to invite beef cattle producers from Washington and neighboring states to attend a one-day Beef Herd Economic Workshop on January 6, 2017 at the Grant County Fairgrounds in the 4-H Building from 10:00 AM-3:00 PM. The day will feature nationally recognized ranch management tools developed by University of Wyoming Extension Specialist Bridger Feuz. These robust economic analysis tools will help cattle producers make important and timely decisions for their beef herd. The day will also feature University of Wyoming and WSU Extension Specialists speaking on range and pasture management, beef cow nutrition, genetics and risk management tools.
Thanks to grant funding and support from WSU Extension and the Grant County Cattlemen Association, registration for this event is free and includes the workshop, handouts, and lunch. Please pre-register by December 30, 2016 so we can ensure adequate accommodations and meals. Lunch will not be guaranteed for those that do not re-register.
