Apocalypsis, by Eric Leiser

Sunday, December 11, 2016, 7:30pm
Los Angeles Filmforum presents
Apocalypsis, by Eric Leiser
At the Spielberg Theatre at the Egyptian, 6712 Hollywood Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90028
Filmmaker Eric Leiser in person! Los Angeles premiere!

Filmforum concludes our 2016 with a return visit from filmmaker Eric Leiser.  Experimental animator Eric Leiser makes films that explore dreams, Christian imagery, surrealism, and magical realism while employing a variety of cinematic techniques, including stop-motion animation and holography. He returns to Filmforum to introduce and discuss his new feature, Apocalypsis, along with a new animated short film, Land Dream.  Apocalypsis now seems more than prescient, as it tracks the interactions of an woman having visions while reading the Book of Revelations, and a conspiracy radio host finding himself tracked by agents of the security state.  A low-budget mix of paranoia, premonition, thriller, and the pursuit of freedom, or transcendence.

Eric Leiser is an award-winning artist, filmmaker, animator, puppeteer, writer and holographer working in New York and born in California. An alumni of CalArts Experimental Animation program, he creates animated and live action feature films and shorts as well as works integrating animation, puppetry, painting, holography, live performance and installation. Leiser is interested in how animation transforms perception when it is combined with live action space, creating a fantastical, spiritual and surrealistic quality.  Leiser is included in the exhibition Dreamlands: Immersive Cinema and Art, 19052016, currently on view at the Whitney Museum of Art in New York.
His animated/live action films have been shown at the Whitney Museum of American Art, Museum of Modern Art Antwerp, Victoria and Albert Museum, The Istanbul Modern Museum of Art, MoMA, New Museum, Thessaloniki Contemporary Art Museum, Centro Cultural Ricardo Rojas Museum de Buenos Aires, MASS MoCA, The Ruben H. Fleet Space Museum, The Wexner Center, among others.

Traffic note:
There will be a multiple day closure of Hollywood Blvd., between Ivar Ave. and Argyle St.; and a thirty-six hour closure of Vine St., between Yucca St. and Selma Ave., to accommodate the world premiere of Rogue 1  A Star Wars Story at The Pantages Theatre on Saturday, December 10, 2016.
Because of the complexity and scale of this premier, the closure is divided into three phases, with each page of the attachment depicting one phase.  The one that matters is Phase 1, but we thought youd like to know about the others.
Phase I;   Hollywood Blvd., between Ivar and Argyle, is closed from 10:00 PM on Monday, December 5th; reopening early morning on Tuesday, December 13th.
Phase 2:   Vine St.. closes between Yucca and Selma, beginning on Friday evening, December 9th; and re-opening on Sunday morning, December 11th.
Phase 3:  The Hollywood Blvd. closure extends west to Cahuenga and east to Gower; and the Vine St. closure extends south to Sunset; between 3:00 PM and 11:59 PM on premiere day, Saturday, December 10, 2016
