Miguel Zeñon Quartet
Multiple Grammy nominee, Guggenheim and MacArthur Fellow, saxophonist Miguel Zeñon bridges the contemporary jazz scene with the music of Puerto Rico and is, as the Chicago Tribune writes, profoundly expressive. Beginning with his recorded debut as a bandleader, 2002s Looking Forward, Zeñon has led a career filled with a range of musical interests, described by All About Jazz as a head-on crash of Latin, jazz and classical traditions. His forthcoming new album, Tipico, is a celebration of the fifteen years that the Miguel Zenon Quartet has been playing together the title in Spanish meaning characteristic to a region or group of people and symbolizing the chemistry they bring to the bandstand as an ensemble. Zeñon is widely considered as one of the most groundbreaking and influential saxophonists of his generation, developing a unique voice as a composer and as a conceptualist, concentrating his efforts on perfecting a fine mix between Latin American folkloric music and jazz.
