Four Chaplains Day Memorial Service
On February 3, 1943, four United States Army Chaplains gave up their life jackets and, ultimately, their lives, when they helped troops off of their transport ship, the U.S.A.T. Dorchester, after it was torpedoed.
The chaplains joined arms, said prayers, and sang hymns as they went down with the ship. Until the Dorchester, there was no mention in print of Catholics, Protestants and Jews working together in this manner, especially in prayer.
Event highlights include the posting of colors by the ROTC Color Guard from the Houston Math, Science, and Technology Center, tributes to the Four Chaplains, solo of "America, the Beautiful" and recognition of each military branch of service by their song.
The Evelyn Rubenstein Jewish Community Center and Interfaith Ministries for Greater Houston invite the community to remember the sacrifice of these men and to honor their legacy.
Thanks to the support of Honor Veterans Now for helping make this program possible.
