A Celtic Christmas, with Robbie O'Connell and Rose Clancy
By popular demand , we are bringing back a celebration of the mid-winter, presenting tunes from the little known Kilmore carols of Wexford to the Irish-American vaudeville stage, from Winter Solstice traditions to Christian to pagan. Join us for A Celtic Christmas, as we present Robbie OConnell with acclaimed fiddler Rose Clancy.
Robbie OConnell was born in Waterford, Ireland and grew up in Carrick-on-Suir, County Tipperary, where his parents had a small hotel. He began to play guitar and sing at age thirteen and soon became a regular performer at the hotels weekly folk concerts. A nephew of the Clancy Brothers, he began touring with his uncles in 1977 and recorded 3 albums with them. A National Treasure... a man blessed with an enviable turn of phrase and a gift for melody bestowed on only the few, is how Irelands top music magazine, Hot Press, describes Robbie OConnell.
The multi-talented Rose Clancy is a much respected, high energy musician playing fiddle, mandolin and banjo at concerts and festivals throughout the Northeast while sharing the stage with some of the greatest traditional performers. Clancys unique fiddle style embraces, Northern Irish, Scottish, and French Canadian influences. She founded The Chatham Fiddle Company where she teaches, makes and repairs instruments and runs a boutique concert series featuring some of the finest talent from the Celtic music genre.
