Frogbelly and Symphony is an international band, splitting its time between Sheffield, UK, and Brooklyn, NY. Members Liz and Tom Hanley, Ben Trott, and Ray Rizzo come from a wide variety of musical backgrounds, bringing in a world of influences to their expressively executed experimental tunes. The influence of traditional folk music and poetry is evident, but the prog and post-punk vibes can't be ignored either.

Christian McNeill is certainly no stranger to the Boston music scene. A native of Derry City, Ireland, Christian McNeill is a force of alternative rock and soul, renowned for gritty and passionate live shows and songs with memorable lyrics anchored in infectious melodies. If you trace his career arc back to his early days with post-punk band, Schtum, to his most recent project, Sea Monsters, you will hear a style of singing and songwriting that is ever-evolving and always engaging. The uncompromising honesty of the song "Zero" caught the ear of Steven Van Zandt, who in turn placed two songs from the 2013 album "Everything's Up For Grabs," in heavy rotation on his globally broadcast, Underground Garage.

McNeill is a New Englander these days and resides in the Boston area, where he won "Male Vocalist Of The Year" two years running at the Boston Music Awards in 2011 and 2012.. He has spent the last year in songwriting mode and is currently in the recording studio working on his forthcoming double album, "Trapped On The Planet," which is scheduled for release in early 2016.

MORE ON FROGBELLY and SYMPHONY...
Liz Hanley, raised in an Irish family in Boston Massachusetts learned her traditional Irish and American folk repertoire from her father and grandfather. She studied classical violin at NYU and has been a Brooklyn resident for over 10 years. She's an active contributor to the traditional music scene in NYC and has toured with several folk and rock ensembles.

Tom Hanley grew up in Hamburg Germany, then moved Sheffield UK. He's worked with many projects in experimental music, composing, producing and visual art and as a bass player for many bands and solo artists. Liz and Tom got married in 2013 and they are now pendular between Sheffield UK and Brooklyn NY.

Ray Rizzo grew up in Louisville, KY, where he studied drums and started playing in several international bands. He now mostly lives in Brooklyn. As session musician he has recorded or played with Bob Weir, Glen Hansard, Sam Amidon, Yo Yo Ma, Julia Stone, Trixie Whitley and many others. In 2009 he founded the Motherlodge Live Arts Exchange.

Guitarist Ben Trott sprang from a family deeply rooted in the English folk tradition. He studied classical and jazz guitar in Doncaster, UK and has been a member of several UK-based folk ensembles. Ben decided to go fishing in late 2015. His musical contributions still appear on recordings and videos. He can also be seen live on stage.

...and variantly:

Ally Fraser - drums.
Ally has been playing drums on many Frogbelly shows throughout the UK and continental Europe. He is based in Sheffield UK. Besides being a musician Ally is also a designer of bespoke wooden furniture, which gave him the nickname "Woodman". He also appears on selected studio recordings and videos.

Ian Hutchinson from Sheffield started playing guitar with Frogbelly and Symphony in early 2016. He's set out to appear on several shows around the UK and Europe. Ian has been a member of Sheffield's post-punk institution Rumpus for many years. The band recently reformed under the name Heads Off.

David Marshall from Brooklyn first got to know the band on a shared tour with his band Mesiko. He filled in as guitarist on several occasions and will appear on several US tour dates in 2016.
