"Bride of Frankenstein" at Tompkins Corners, Friday, October 28th
Tompkins Corners Cultural Center will present "The Bride of Frankenstein," the 1935 horror classic from Universal Pictures, on Friday, October 28 at 7:30 pm.

In 1931, Universal shocked the movie going public with a pair of thrillers, "Dracula" with Bela Lugosi and "Frankenstein" with Boris Karloff. Audiences were shocked, box office lines were long, and the new era of sound horror films had begun. Frankenstein, with its tale of artificially created life, was a huge hit and it's brilliant young director, James Whale, was hired again four years later to direct the sequel. Whale, not wanting to repeat himself, went all out and created a film full of dark humor and thrills. Many believe that the sequel was better than the original. Karloff and Elsa Lanchester are joined by a cast of dozens!

The film is being provided by John Giriat, who has been collecting 16mm film since 1965, purchasing used films, discarded television prints, short comedies and cartoons. He began with horror classics, then the comedy films of Laurel & Hardy, The Marx Brothers, and W C Fields. As the collection grew he collected obscure features and short films from the 1930's and 40's. Now the features and shorts number somewhere around 700 films. Tompkins Corners hopes to show several in the future.

The evening will open with Laurel and Hardy in the 1934 Hal Roach Production of  "The Live Ghost" with Walter Long and Arthur Housman. The boys are shanghaied aboard a ghost ship and the fun begins. This is one of the forty sound comedy shorts that this beloved team made, and one of their funniest.

Attendees are encouraged to come in costume. Halloween treats and popcorn will be available.

Parental advisory: Bride of Frankenstein contains violence and may be scary to children. See: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0026138/parentalguide?ref_=tt_stry_pg
