Etienne Charles & Creole Soul: A Creole Christmas
Fresh off the release of their new album San Jose Suite inspired by the San Jose's of, California, Costa Rica and Trinidad, Etienne Charles & Creole Soul continue to explore and expand how contemporary jazz taps into the many styles of Afro-Caribbean music. The 2015 Guggenheim Fellow hailing from Trinidad has been described by JazzTimes as a daring improvise rwith heart-wrenching lyricism. Centered around Charles chiming trumpet tone, the group combines many elements of Caribbean music, ranging from calypso to Haitian folk melodies, while simultaneously working to create new traditions in the world of contemporary jazz and continuing to expand its relationship between genres, old and new, across the world. From original compositions and new arrangements of classics, Charles repertoire is always diverse, carefully selected, and performed with deft originality. Celebrate the holidays with a Creole Christmas classics from the Caribbean, American and European holiday songbooks, re-imagined by trumpeter Etienne Charles and his stellar ensemble.
