7:00 pm Robert Glasper Experiment
Few groups in jazz have made the impact that the Robert Glasper Experiment has made over the past few years. Combining jazz with electronic music, neo-soul and hip-hop, RGX has collaborated with artists from Common and Snoop Dogg to Lalah Hathaway and Norah Jones. Glasper's latest album, Everything's Beautiful, is a collection of Miles Davis master takes and outtakes remixed with new musical contributions, alongside the pianists reinterpretations of songs from the Davis canon. Glasper also scored the soundtrack for Don Cheadles Miles Ahead movie, a perfect complement to Everything's Beautiful. In his early career, Glasper's exquisite piano work was featured with many established jazz artists, including Roy Hargrove, Christian McBride and Terence Blanchard. The success of his 2012 Grammy award-winning Black Radio proved Glasper's remarkable skill as a producer and musician not wedded to the past, choosing instead to fuse jazz, r&b, pop, and hip-hop into a sound for the 21st Century. In 2013, Robert Glasper Experiment upped the ante with Black Radio 2 another genre-defying effort that took the Black Radio blueprint and built to even greater heights, winning Glasper a 2nd Grammy for Best Traditional R&B Performance. Glasper continues to remind listeners of the multitude of possibilities for musical collaboration and blurring the lines. But for Glasper this is merely second nature, as he continues to exemplify a new era in jazz.
