With The Birds, Hitchcock lulls viewers into a real-world setting before unleashing the antagonists on them like a splash of cold water. When a wealthy socialite follows a potential boyfriend to a sleepy coastal California town the birds there suddenly start to attack. This cautionary tale is nearly 50 years old, but still feels timely. You'll never look at a flock of birds the same way again.
